เป็นเทพนิยายพื้นบ้านที่เล่าขานกันในประเทศอังกฤษในช่วงต้นศตวรรษที่ 19 เนื้อเรื่องกล่าวถึงเด็กชายชื่อ แจ็ค ที่ซื้อเมล็ดถั่ววิเศษมาจากชายแปลกหน้าและนำไปโยนทิ้งหลังบ้าน เมล็ดถั่วนั้นเติบโตขึ้นเป็นต้นถั่วขนาดใหญ่ แจ็คปีนต้นถั่วขึ้นไปบนฟ้า แอบเข้าไป

ในบ้านของยักษ์และแอบขโมยของมีค่าของยักษ์กลับบ้านไม่ว่าจะเป็นถุงทองคำแม่ไก่ออกไข่เป็นทองและพิณวิเศษ เมื่อยักษ์รู้ตัวก็ออกตามล่าแต่แจ็คก็รอดมาได้ทุกครั้ง ด้วยความช่วยเหลือจากเมียของยักษ์สุดท้ายแจ็คก็ฆ่ายักษ์ได้ในครั้งที่สาม โดยแจ็คปีน

หนียักษ์ลงมาจนถึงพื้นดินก่อน และใช้ขวานฟันต้นถั่วทำให้ยักษ์ตกลงมาตาย
